HIST 3517 [0.5 credit] History of Modern Egypt


Focuses on moments in modern Egyptian history, as exemplified by the lives of particular Egyptians. Through their writings, the course analyses responses to European colonialism, Islamic reformism, Egyptian feminism, the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s cultural influence, the experience of the Coptic community, and the 2011 Revolution.
Prerequisite(s): a 2000-level history course or third-year standing and 1.0 credit in History.
Lectures three hours a week.
